Yes... but: I would not always treat it. As many as 5% of the population carry strep A in their throat year round & never get the disease. That number can increase in strep season. Red throat is to non-specific to consider exposure to an unnecessary antibiotic. However, if the kid acts sickly enough a visit & testing would be worthwhile. Treatment would then be directed by all findings.
