Small cells/less hgb: When a kid has small blood cells & reduced hemoglobin there is something interfering with the process. For some, it can be lack of iron in their diet which would also show up as anemia. For some, it is a genetic abnormality like thalassemia where the protein strands that make up the blood are not made correctly leading to the small depleted cells.
