The condition most: important to evaluate is possible seizures, possible coming from the temporal lobe. It sounds like these have been recurring for the better part of 10 years. There are a number of conditions associated with sleep. I would start with a Neurologist who specializes in sleep-related symptoms. Good wishes to you and your boyfriend:)
