Probably swallowed: When you aspirate something into your trachea and into your lungs, it is highly irritating and would provoke a very strong cough unless you were very sedated such as with very strong sedatives or alcohol intoxication. Whereas, people swallow saliva normally through their course of their sleep.

Not lungs: If you had aspirated a pouch of tobacco - you would be very ill right now with respiratory problems. If it did not fall out of your mouth you may have swallowed it. This is why it is very important to spit it out. The best approach would be to quit altogether. Take care.
