Surgeon thinks: That potential risks of operation, given your weight and all other factors, outweigh the potential benefits of operation. He has your best interest in mind, I am sure. Every time i, and every surgeon in the world, see a patient for possible operation, we go through a complex analysis of risks v. Benefits.

Maybe unrelated: Sounds like your symptoms are not related to the hernia. Your weight doesake the operation more risky, and if it will be unlikely to meet your goal of feeling better, it sounds appropriate to wait. If your goal was preventing the hernia from getting worse, it could be repaired. Your weight alone however is far more if a risk for premature death than your hernia ever will be. Best of luck!
