A member asked:

For type 1 diabetics, when your sugar is low and you eat candy, does that sugar get processed and make u potentially gain weight like a non-diabetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Should be beneficial: The sugar eaten should be beneficial, meaning it should be processed the normal way, taken in by the body's cells and thus used as fuel or stored as future fuel. Storing for the future use means gaining weight in fat, or temporarily in glycogen. Realize that sugar in the blood that cannot be used by the cells (this is the problem in type 1 diabetes) is of no help but raises the blood sugar number.
