Inflammation: Inflammation of the esophagus can be a precursor for cancer. Inflammation of the esophagus and stomach can mimic or hide cancer. It was smart to get endoscopy. Your doctor did a good job biopsying the worrisome areas. If the biopsies come back benign, then you will be treated and observed. Well done. Your working diagnosis is inflammation which is treated with medicines.
