Communication: Did you communicate to your dentist that you had discomfort in that area of your mouth. Everything could have appeared normal at that exam. If the issue continues for more than a few days, then have your dentist re-evaluate that area.

Tip of iceberg: Often what patients see is just the tip of the iceberg. If teeth are crooked, if bite is off, if you are having pain, it might be wise to consult with an Orthodontist as well as discussing this issue with your Dentist. For the most part, Orthodontists do not charge for initial examinations, so why not go see a specialist.
