Direct trauma: to the olfactory nerves is a rare cause of phantosmia and it makes sense that the duration will be the length of time it takes for these nerves to heal from the trauma. I'm afraid a NEUROLOGIST should be the expert to evaluate your problem and make sure there is not another cause. Hope this helps! Dr Z
