A dentist can help: Healthtap currently does not have dentists as medical experts. A rough surface on teeth may be due to enamel problems, which can be a genetic trait. A dentist can evaluate, give a diagnosis, and offer treatment. Maybe there are protective liquid medications that can be applied to the teeth. A dentist will know. Thanks for using healthtap!

Toothbrush abrasion: Toothbrush abrasion is a common condition created when you place too much force with your toothbrush over the front or back surfaces of your teeth during brushing. It forms deep ruts on the enamel or exposed root surfaces causing causing sensativity to cold air or foods. If you are wearing out and replacing toothbrushes often, you need to be more gentle with your brushing. Use a soft brisel brush.

Abrassion??: If you clench or grind your teeth, if you have gastric reflux you could abrade tooth strucutre and expose dentin. This would lead to sensitivity along with the nerve being inflammed from constant trauma.
