My front left tooth has been sensitive to everything cold, even air. my dentist couldn't find the problem after x rays & inspection. what could it be?

Recession: if you look in the mirror has the gum recessed down the tooth. (Showing the root, a yellow color of the tooth). This is usually recession and can be caused be grinding, brushing the gums too hard and therefore causing sensitivity to hot and cold. If that's not the cause, have you traumatized the tooth ie. Hit it on a bottle or something hard.? May times these do not show up in X-rays.

Fracture ?: Fractures are often difficult to detect... they are not always visible and rarely show up on radiographs. Sinus inflammation can also be the culprit, as well as prior trauma. How long has it hurt you? If it has been more than three weeks, see a local endodontist for a second opinion.
