A member asked:

I had a routine dental cleaning and ever since i have an irritated/sensitive gum over one tooth. i go every 3 months for a cleaning and i was told that i am doing an excellent job in cleaning my teeth, so why do i now have this problem?

If the gum is sensitive, not the tooth, than the gum needs to be brushed, as well as the tooth .Use a soft brush and brush the gums first, than the teeth. Use a gum massager also, which can be obtained at any pharmacy.

The last cleaning may have been enough to budge the gum line away from the tooth - which would have likely occurred at a later date anyway. Consulting with a periodontist may be an idea.
