Probably not needed: to go to the ER for this unless the pain is so bad that it doubles you over and you can't function. But it is a good idea to be seen for this. Are you in the middle of your menstral cycle? Sometimes women have Mittelschmerz pain on one side in the middle part of your cycle when you are ovulating. If the pain increases in severity over 2-3 days then be seen sooner rather than later.

No or not yet: This is not a typical pain for appendicitis. It could be an ovarian problem, however. If the pain becomes VERY severe and stays, you could have a twisted ovary and then you should go. If it is momentary and not excruciating, probably ovulation or not an emergency.

When to go to E.R.: If you have a pain that is constant and prevents you from laughing, walking, and talking then go to the E.R. If not, please make an appointment with an MD who can assess the source of your periodic jabbing hourly pain more accurately and thoroughly.
