It should be similar: in effect. The benzodiazepine chlordiazepoxide/Librium is one of the first developed in this class, and is long-acting. It stays in your system up to three days. It is most commonly used in detoxification from alcohol protocols. Diazepam/Valium, by contrast, is quite short acting. Your doctor likely wanted a similar, but longer acting effect.
