Second opinion?: Hi Kelly, this is difficult to answer not knowing more about what's going on with you. Generally speaking, benzos are best used on a short term basis, and there are other medications that are safer over the long term. Strongly recommend that you consider psychotherapy as chronic anxiety can be managed quite effectively with evidence based approaches, e.g., CBT. Hope this is helpful. Take care.

Valid concern: Hi! We use it in the ER quite frequently, but you're right that in the long term people can develop tolerance and dependence (addiction). If you do use it on a long-term basis, be sure that you are only taking them as directed, and that you follow-up regularly with the prescribing physician. You might also consider lifestyle modification, regular counseling sessions or even hypnosis.
