Ankle Reinjury: It is not wise to resume an explosive kicking pivoting sport like soccer with an ankle sprain and return to sport recommendations depend upon the severity of the sprain. In high grade sprains one or both lateral ligaments can be ruptured rendering the joint unstable. Continue ice and elevation and ankle support and protection using an ankle boot or at minimum a compression sleeve.
