Not ready: With a a simple ankle sprain most non professional soccer players ca return in 2-8 weeks . When you can run, cut and jump without ok pain or a sense of weakness. Taping or ankle bracing may be required till strength to protect further sprains has occurred. The "hard lump...Hurts" is concerning. I would get it checked out before i resumed play.

X-ray: Have it examined. It may have been broken and slow to heal, or, it could be unrelated to the sprain.

Many possibilities: Some causes of painful “lumps” may include: bony overgrowths, soft tissue masses, ganglions, fibromas, localized swelling or inflammation and cysts. Have it evaluated by a professional to get the right diagnosis.
