Not uncommon: They had to cut through several layers of skin to get it out and residual reaction to the previously irritating appendix may not have faded. Pain is common and most managing surgeons would have given you instructions on pain control, activity limitations, etc.If you missed these or the pain is beyond that expected call the doc on call and discuss the issue.

Keep watching.: It's not unusual for her to still be having significant pain this soon after surgery. If the site looks OK (no blood or pus or expanding area of surrounding redness), then keep an eye on it. If one of these things appears, reach out to surgeon.
