Oral contraceptives can be a very helpful tool to help prevent painful periods. Sometimes, bleeding occurs at the wrong time when taking birth control. This is called breakthrough bleeding. Most of the time it will correct on its own. It can be frustrating but does not usually indicate something is wrong.
