Pain and insomnia: Difficult to say, but Amitriptyline is commonly used in pain management and also for insomnia. It is not a pain medication, but can be helpful in managing pain. The dose of 5 mg is not generally sufficient to treat depression, so appears it appears the prescribing Dr. was targeting other symptoms. Hope this is helpful.
