Ankle fractures: Some patterns do well with casting some do not Basically it become more about the alignment of the ankle joint if the tibio talar joint is aligned and maintained then no surgery is recommended if the bone is nondisplaced and doesn't invlove the ankle joint e.g. Tip of fibula if the tibio talar joint is displaced then anatomic reduction is attempted to prevent ankle arthritis late hope this helps
