Nl out to 6-12 wks: Postoperative swelling is normal after ankle fracture surgery for up to 6 to 10 weeks. Icing elevating and simple allowable motion helps mitigate against swelling.

Yes: Swelling can occur for many months after an ankle fracture especially if you had surgery. It is important to keep your leg elevated when you sit to help prevent swelling.
