A member asked:

High liver enzymes (alp/alt) including alkaline phosphate in a boxer, could be due to the constant punching to the liver area?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: I do ringside medicine. The skin is not really abraded by the blows, and it would very much surprise me if the liver was. With the abs muscles on most of these guys, it's like hitting through a brick wall. Now, a strong aerobic workout can raise liver enzymes by shunting blood away from the liver, but your athlete deserves the usual checks for hepatitis B and C, hemochromatosis and Wilson's.
