Tapering safely: Good question! Maybe your doctor has already replaced diazepam by another medication? In any case, it is always safer to gradually taper a psychotropic medication taken on a daily basis. In regard to diazepam, you may safely decrease your daily dosage by 0.5 mg every other day until complete discontinuation. Please call back your doctor for clarification. Good luck and be safe!
