Get MRI to be sure: MRI is better than CT to characterize soft tissue masses. IV contrast would likely be used for lipoma analysis. These statements assume the patient is a candidate for MRI and contrast. Lipomas are benign, but it is nice to almost completely exclude a rare liposarcoma--less than 3 in a million people diagnosed in a year. MRI along with a benign history and presentation does this.
