Get re-checked: Lipoma is a benign tumor that can occur anywhere in the body, and some can grow to be very large and compress surrounding tissues, causing pain. However, CT scan alone may not be adequate to distinguish lipoma from potentially more serious tumors, called liposarcomas. Further testing, with a tissue biopsy is the only way to definitively confirm the tumor type.
