Could avoid bones: With X-ray guidance, the LP / spinal needle can avoid hitting the vertebral bones that make up the spine. Under skilled hands, they can be avoided even without X-ray images, but given your history, it's probably best to get as much help as possible. While bones are sensitive, the skin houses the most nerves, & so the procedure will probably not be totally pain-free w/o skin anesthesia. Good luck!
