MS: It is hard to develop an opinion about possible diagnosis without a physical exam. However, if your doctor is ordering a spinal tap it suggests that he cares about your symptoms and is working thoroughly to find an explanation to your problems. If he/she thinks this could be ms make sure oligoclonal bands and immunoglobulin synthesis rate is measured in it. Hope you feel well soon.

Yes: There are several possibilities for the symptoms you describe and ms is one of them. For most conditions, there isn't a big sign on your forehead telling doctors you have "x syndrome." that is why we have a "differential diagnosis." we have several choices and we do tests to help us figure out what is the most likely one. Sometimes we change our minds in the middle of treatment!

Possible, but: Your joint issues could be due to your rheumatoid arthritis, but it could be that your MRI revealed suspicious lesions, and now your doctor is trying to uncover reason for these "spots". Best to get this completed, so that appropriate therapy can be decided, and this can be reversed. Do not worry, all of this can be successfully managed.
