A member asked:

Can a dentist tell if 1 of your tooth lost its position & is pushed farther back? could this happen with very very small bone loss?

Tooth Movement: It may be hard for your dentist to determine if our tooth has shifted, especially if they do not have a reference to go by. Bone loss decreases the support of the teeth, so yes, bone loss may result in shifting.

Maybe: if you had been seeing the same dentist over a period of time or had molds of your teeth made at some point and still had them for comparison

Tooth Movement: Good day; Factors that may cause single tooth movement may be occlusal in nature, either an opposing tooth contacting prematurely or crowding of the dental arch. Muscular movements like tongue thrusting may alter tooth alignment. This is the ideal time to contact you dentist or orthodontist.

Yes: See your Dentist. Know that tooth movement throughout life is normal, but can be minimized. Referral to an Orthodontist (Initial Examination usually free) may be the wisest course to pursue. And yes, any bone loss exacerbates destabilization.
