For an abscessed tooth dentist recommends extraction due to bone loss, is this a good option?

Trust your dentist?: If you trust your dentist and understand the dental problem, recommended treatment and rationale for treatment make sense, then proceed. If you do not feel that way, then get a second opinion, after all it is your healthcare.

Treatment options?: The only way anyone can give you an accurate evaluation is by personally examining you and being able to see the x-rays of your teeth. Even if we were able to do that, would you trust us rather than your own dentist? Hopefully not. Dr. Gordon already gave you great advice as to how to proceed from here.

Too late: It maybe your only option. You might have waited too long and if you you wait longer it will effect your other teeth as well.

Depends: It depends on whether its a periodontal or endodontic related abscess, the amount of bone loss, and its location. If you have skepticism , get a second opinion from a periodontist or endodontist!

A dental abscess (infection) causes bone loss. Gum disease (infection ) can cause bone loss. The longer abscess goes untreated, the greater the supporting bone damage. Depending on severity, treatments are usually root canal/crown or extraction/implant/crown. Bone augmentation may be required.
