Definitely: People who drink too much alcohol while taking bupropion increase their risks of seizures, hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, mood/behavior changes, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and panic attacks. The question is can you drink at all...after getting the "go ahead" from your doctor, I would try a half a drink. If no problems, try 1 drink/day MAX. Stay well:)

Yes: Firstly, bupropion is used mostly to treat depression, and alcohol can both cause and worsen depression in susceptible individuals. Secondly, alcohol has a lot of drug interactions and can effect the blood levels and safety of many other drugs. Lastly, alcohol can increase the side effects of bupropion, particularly its tendency to cause seizures, particularly in higher dose ranges.

See below: Generally, It's not advisable to mix alcohol and psychotropics. I would also discuss issues with your prescribing provider as s/he is the most familiar with your medical history and any other meds you're taking. Stay well!

Are you asking if: Wellbutrin will continue working if you drink? Probably, but its always a bad idea to take an antidepressant med and at the same time drink a depressant drink, even if the two work on two or more different neurotransmitters. Mixing the two is a chemical crap shoot.

Yes and no: wellbutrin, the immediate release form, can slightly lower your seizure threshold, and binge drinking can lower your seizure threshold as well, so as always, drink in moderation. In my clinical experience which alcohol and wellbutrin work through different pathways, patients have noted everything from making the effect of alcohol more dulled, heightened, or no differene.
