Effusion: It sound like you have an effusion in your ankle. Previous trauma? Swelling in the joint or in the surrounding tissues of your ankle? A painless swollen monoarthritis should be investigated w/full exam to see if you have any infection rheumatological sx or diabetes, may progress to polyarthritis. X-rays and joint aspiration may be needed. You will need to rest , ice, elevate and compress ankle.
