I have pain on the out side edge of my foot, on the bone 1/2 way down my foot. it is red, swollen and very tender.what should i do?

Fracture: It sounds like you have a fracture & should have an x-ray done.

That is the region: Of the 5th metatarsal base. Tis bone is commonly fractured. Did you have a recent trauma? One can also get tendonitis at this location of the peroneus brevis or tertius. I would pay a visit to a podcast who can x-ray the foot and help with treatment recommendation.
