Strained neck muscle: It sounds like you pulled or strained one of the muscles in the side of your neck. This can happen while you sleep at night, or other times too. It will resolve in a day or two. You can try using a heating pad for 20 minutes. Do some very gentle stretches by looking slowly in the directions it hurts to turn your head. Try some tylenol (acetaminophen) for the pain. This will pass soon.
