Further evaluation: In darker skinned persons the reflex may be grayish and red reflex may not show up properly in pictures. The examination should be performed in a darkened room using appropriate medical scopes & proper focusing , that said, if indeed the reflex is white or does not appear the same in both eyes then a thorough evaluation is needed by the ophthalmologist to screen for disorders in the eyes.
