A member asked:

My hemoglobin is 8.3 and my platelets are 573. i have an appointment to see a hematologist but want to know what to expect when i see him. ?

A good workup: I'm betting you're iron-deficient. This is the commonest cause of platelets being high like this and you're anemic. I hope that no one is forcing a non-supplementing vegetarian lifestyle on you. You may be checked for stomach cancer, bleeding ulcers, colon cancer; expect to be asked about your monthly blood loss. You may get other tests and perhaps an iron infusion. It'll be a good thing.
