Nerve injury: Complete transaction of a nerve in the foot as described is neurotmesis.. Partial transaction of only the axon with preservation of the surrounding sheath is axonetmesis. Although the former is more severe of an injury ,many times a complete cut allows for immediate repair and hence quicker recovery. However the effective healing of repaired sensory foot nerves is low so repair is not attempted
