A member asked:

For removal of metal plate from 5th metacarpal bone? which type is recommended? full body anesthesia or local anesthesia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It Depends....: If you want NO discomfort that would require a general (full) anesthesia, i.e. go to sleep. If you don't mind a little discomfort (otherwise known as pain) it can be done under lesser anesthesia, local plus sedation or even wide awake local. Be advised though that bone often is not completely blocked by a local or nerve block. Your choice but most patients chose general.
