Recurrent herpes: Acyclovir (Zovirax (acyclovir) and generics) and famciclovir (Famvir) also are available, but valayclovir (Valtrex®) usually is best. Oral HSV1 outbreaks are often triggered by local injury (e.g. sunburn) or other infections (hence the names "cold sore" and "fever blister"). But there are no well documented triggers of genital HSV2 outbreaks, either physical or psychological; outbreaks are random.
