A member asked:

I have hsv-1 and seem to get it in mouth, genitalia, back, and sometimes chest. it also gets triggered very often even with suppressive therapy of 500 mg valtrex daily. is this normal? can i take too much valtrex? does cittruline worsen recurrences?

It is unlikely all these symptoms are due to HSV1; and recurrent outbreaks are uncommon while taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). Both oral and genital HSV1 outbreaks usually do not occur more often than 2-3 times a year, and chest lesions almost certainly are not herpes. Citrulline does not increase the frequency or severity of HSV outbreaks. See your doctor for HSV PCR testing of the outbreaks.
