Asymmetry: It is not unusual to have one side of the lower rib cage flare out more than the other side. When some people tense their abdominal muscles they(rectus muscles) pull apart giving the illusion that there is a ventral hernia, but it is simply diastasis recti which is just a normal variant. Your physician can verify these two explanations for you if you still have concerns.
