My 5 year old child has 7 mm kidney stones. is it big?. any medicine to break down the stone? can it pass naturally.what is the treatment

Dr. Katharine Cox answered

Specializes in Pediatric Emergency Medicine

It is unusual for a 5 year old to have kidney stones. If the stone is positioned in a safe place, where it is not causing pain or blockage watching it may be the best option. A 7 mm stone would be impossible to pass. He should be seen by a Pediatric nephrologist and urologist. All the best.
