I have patchy brown/yellow discoloration on my lower leg, most likely hemosiderin deposits due to venous insufficiency. i'm 40; what can remove this?

Brown/yellow discoloration on my lower leg: Hemosiderin is usually of dark brown color, not yellow. It is reabsorbed over time. Hemosiderin staining is a common problem to see after any surgical procedure where there is bruising or blood in the tissue. Liposuction naturally results in bruising because of the injury it causes to the fat cells, so finding some degree of it postoperatively is not a surprise. Depending on your skin color and the thickness of your dermis (the deeper layer of your skin) some people are more prone to this than others. Hemosiderin staining is the name that describes what happens when blood cells get outside of the veins and arteries, and settle under the skin. The red blood cells contain a red pigment that included iron and is called hemosiderin. When the red blood cells are outside of the blood vessels or damaged, your body just naturally starts breaking them down and digesting them. This releases the red pigment (hemosiderin) directly into the tissue. While it is there it give the skin a brownish discoloration that persist after the actual bruise goes away-this is the “staining” that you are experiencing. That pigment does slowly get processed by your system and washes away, but that can take as long as 6 months or more to happen. The good news is that eventually it does all resolve but there is not much you can do in the meantime to make it happen faster. It will not affect the final result you get from your liposuction.

Possibly laser..: Depending on the severity of the staining, it might be a partially reduced. Time may help the color fade as long as the initial cause is also eliminated. There are laser procedures that have shown promise. Consider a consultation with a vein specialist, plastic surgeon or a dermatologist.
