Probably OK: an isolated bruise on the back of a 5 year old is not unusual. He may well have bumped or called against something and not felt it was any big deal. Watch for any reoccurrence or continued presence.

Bruising on the back: particularly over the spine can occur with play unnoticed by the child. The yellow is normal. Bruises on soft areas like the stomach or sides are less common since more force is needed compared to bony areas.If she is otherwise well there should be no concern. If she is having multiple unexplained bruises, nose/gum bleeding, or you fear she is being injured, an exam by her Pediatrician is needed.
