6 weeks bone healing: It takes 6 weeks for the fibula bone to heal. You may be transitioned out of a cast into a protective walking boot much sooner than that. I will routinely allow my patients to begin partial weight bearing in a boot at 3-4 weeks and begin full weight bearing by 6 weeks after surgery. Physical therapy can be initiated during this time period. It can take 6 months for your ankle to feel normal.
