Not as first line: First line therapy for mild stage 1 hypertension, as you have, would be lifestyle modification. Would start DASH diet, regular exercise (30 minutes at least 4-5 days weekly), and weight loss if needed. The combination of those activities may very well get your BP under control and you could avoid medicine. Should see your doctor again within a few months to recheck it and be sure it is controlled.
