Yes: there are a few ways to strengthen your core and take some strain off of your low back joints and disks somewhat - usually the PT can help design core strengthening exercises for you to work on nand progress with over about 8 weeks - however, it is possible that PT in general can aggravate whatever the pain generator in the back is as well
