Accident to gums: Most likely all will return to normal. However, he should be examined by a dentist as what might seem "fine" to you might not be the entire picture. A dentist will be able to check for other issues that might not be readily visible. Also, this needs to be monitored for about six months to ensure that there is no nerve damage to the teeth.

No: He needs immediate care. Ask your Dentist to refer you to a gum/bone Specislist. Do NOT delay.

Serious: This sounds serious. I am having trouble picturing teeth that are fine, but the gum is missing. I think you should get your son to a doctor to make a proper diagnosis.
