My 36lb. 3 1/2 year old son was prescribed amoxicillin 400mg/5ml at a dosage of 8 mls. twice a day for strep throat. i am concerned that the dosage is?

More than that can be given in other acute infections, although for a strep throat 5-6 ml /dose would suffice given your son's weight, but the extra 2-3 ml wouldn't be harmful, probably your son's doctor suspected an upper respiratory infection as well such as acute sinusitis. You may want to verify it with your doctor if you're concerned, otherwise continue till the follow up visit, good luck
