Several causes of: medial knee pain: medial collateral ligament tear/strain; medial cartilage/meniscus tear; arthritis. Often related to injury. Many imbalances of knee muscles can result in medial knee pain as force is not evenly distributed. PRICE is your first step: Protect (from further injury); Rest; Ice; Compression (wrap/brace); Elevation (especially if swelling). Try this a week or two..then to Sports/Ortho.
